The University of Santo Tomas Junior Growling Tigresses toppled the National University-Nazareth School Lady Bulldogs 14-13, in the Finals of the UAAP Season 87 girls’ 3×3 tournament on Sunday, May 4, at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

The 5x5 championship core of Barby Dajao, Katrina Insoy, Rhiane Perez, and Lea Pinuela swept through the four-squad tournament.

Dajao notched five points and five rebounds, while Perez, Pinuela, and Insoy each tallied three markers.

The Tigresses opened strong, sharing the ball and attacking the glass to take an 8-2 lead.

Ash Abong came alive to power NU’s 8-2 counterattack and capitalize on UST’s early penalty trouble to tie the game at 10-all.

UST accelerated in the final two minutes with Perez and Insoy swishing three straight buckets, 13-10.

Abong delivered three putbacks in the dying seconds of the game to close the gap, 14-13.

The Tigresses held on to the victory with a crucial defensive stop on the final possession.

Abong led NU’s helm with eight points and 12 rebounds.

5-on-5 MVP Barby Dajao snagged another Most Valuable Player award in the three-a-side court.
