The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs faltered late in the Finals versus the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eaglets, 19-22, in the UAAP Season 87 junior’s 3×3 tournament, on Sunday, May 4, at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

Jhon Canapi led the scorers with seven points and three rebounds, while Miguel Jubilado and Nickson Cabañero logged in six and five markers, respectively.

The Tiger Cubs fell behind by six early as Sky Jazul fired eight quick points to push the Eaglets ahead, 6-12.

Jubilado, Canapi, and Cabañero attacked the paint relentlessly, tying the game at 16-all with one minute and 16 seconds remaining.

Zane Kallos then erupted for four straight points, draining a long bomb and converting an and-1 play to bring Ateneo within reach of victory, 17-20.

Canapi answered with a deep two to give UST a fighting chance, 19-20, but Jazul delivered the dagger with a clutch basket to seal the win for Ateneo, 19-22.

Jazul starred for the Blue Eaglets with 11 points, shooting four-of-seven from long range, while Kallos added seven markers and 10 rebounds.

The Tiger Cubs carved out a gutsy 21-19 win against the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws to barge into the Finals.
