The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses registered their third-straight victory after overcoming the Adamson University Lady Falcons in four sets, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, March 1, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Angge Poyos continued to shine for the Golden Tigresses with 21 points off 20 attacks and one block, while Cassie Carballo also showed 20 excellent sets in the win.

UST overcame eight deadlocks in the opening set as an attack from Pia Abbu helped them pull away from the Lady Falcons, 18-17.

The Golden Tigresses seized the opening frame with a powerful attack from Reg Jurado that went through Adamson's double block, 25-21.

Errors and poor reception on the side of Golden Tigress allowed the Lady Falcons to have a six-to-zero run in the second frame.

Angge Poyos' off-speed and Pia Abbu's joust against Frances Mordi sparked hope for UST, 20-22, but Shaina Nitura denied further hopes of a Tigresses comeback, taking the set for Adamson through an overpass block, 20-25.

UST entered the third set with renewed confidence, checking Nitura at the net and establishing an eight-point lead, 12-4.

A running attack from Marga Altea helped UST re-establish a one-set cushion over the Lady Falcons, 25-13.

Errors from UST enabled Adamson to stay within striking distance before overtaking UST late in the set, off a through-the-block kill from Mordi, 24-25.

Jurado was quick to retaliate, blocking Mordi's down-the-line hit, 26-25, while an anti-climactic attack error from Nitura gave UST the win, 27-25.

Nitura continued to soar for Adamason with 28 explosive points built on 26 attacks and two blocks, alongside 14 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions.

The Golden Tigress will try to extend their winning streak against the gritty University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Wednesday, March 5, at the FilOil EcoOil Center.
