The UST Junior Golden Booters clinched their third win of the season as they powered through the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 5-2, in the UAAP Season 87 boys’ football tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.
Mark Visitacion shined for the Junior Golden Booters as he netted a brace during the first half of the match to leave the Blue Eagles scramming for solutions on their defensive end.
Visitacion first found the back of the net during the 21st-minute and soon scored his second goal in the 35th-minute of the match to secure a solid 2-0 lead for the España-based squad.
The Junior Golden Booters scored their third goal off the cleats of Joshua Balliner in the 65th-minute, 3-0.
UST’s attempt for a clean sheet was erased in the 61st-minute following a direct free-kick goal from Ateneo’s James De Valle, who put the Katipunan-based squad on the board, 3-1.
A 75th-minute goal from River Solis put the Junior Golden Booters back up by three goals, 4-1, but conceded another goal through a penalty from Blue Eagle Andres Dumlao in the 80th-minute, 4-2.
Substitute Lucky Aque secured the win for UST as he netted the final goal of the match during the 82nd-minute, 5-2.
UST remains undefeated and now stands in second place with 10 points built on three wins and a draw. They remain behind the FEU Diliman Baby Tamaraws who have 12 points after winning their opening four matches.
The Junior Golden Booters will have the opportunity to go top of the table as they embark on a Season 86 finals rematch against FEU on Saturday, Feb. 8, in the same venue.
