The UST Golden Tigresses overcame the Adamson Lady Falcons in five sets, 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-8, to end their three-game skid in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday, April 2, at the Araneta Coliseum.

Angge Poyos delivered when she was needed the most, pumping in 27 points built on 25 attacks, a block, and a service ace.

Reg Jurado also delivered 20 points built on 15 attacks, four blocks, and a service ace in the winning effort.`

"Thankful [ako] kasi hindi naging apat na losing streak and [sa] grit ng mga bagets namin na talagang emotions na yung nag-didictate [sakanila] nung two, three, four [na sets]," Golden Tigresses head coach Kung Fu Reyes said.

"Yung high and lows ng game kanina especially nung mga rallies di naman sila tumigil hanggang sa makuha namin yung fourth set and thats the time na sinabi nga namin sakanila na eto na yun, wag na bitawan, at kailangan namin ma-ipanalo yung game," he added

The Golden Tigresses quickly established their ground in the opening set as a 6-0 run fueled by Jurado gave UST a 16-10 lead.

UST maintained the lead towards the end of the set as a cross-court attack from Marga Altea, followed by a service error from Adamson's rookie captain Shaina Nitura, gave the Tigresses the set, 25-18.

Nitura and Fraces Mordi soared among the clouds as they dropped attack after attack to give the Lady Falcons a seven-point cushion, 7-14.

Three-straight block points from Jurado, along with an attack from Poyos, helped the Golden Tigresses cut the lead to one, 22-23.

Their run was ultimately cut short as an attack from Nitura brought out set point while a service error from Cassie Carballo ended the set, 23-25.

Adamson held a slim two-point margin over UST but was soon cancelled out as a 5-0 run fueled by the offensive prowess of Poyos gave the Tigresses an 18-15 lead.

Adamson quickly countered and took the lead back through a block and service ace from Faye Sagaysay and a hammer from Mordi, 18-20.

An attack error from Hilongo and a tip-over from Sagaysay allowed Adamson to take a one-set lead, 22-25.

The Tigresses were down by three points to start the fourth set, but an attack error from Nitura and a block from Pia Abbu gave them a two-point lead, 14-12.

UST came back to life as an attack from Poyos and a net touch violation from the Lady Falcons tied the set at the 22-all mark.

Both teams continued to joust for the lead, but three-straight attacks from Jurado allowed UST to extend the match to 27-25.

Two service aces from Carballo, followed by four combined attacks from Jurado and Poyos, propelled UST to a five-point lead by the changeover point, 8-3.

The Tigresses continued to pull away from Adamson as an attack error from Nitura, and a denial at the net from Jurado put things to bed for UST, 15-8.

Nitura led the Lady Falcons in the losing effort, punching in 36 points built on 32 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace.

"Very proud ako sa kanya [kay Shaina] kasi nagagawa nya yung ganong puntos, nakaka 36 point[s] siya, so siguro tiyagain niya pa and patience lang siguro inside the court," Poyos said when asked about how she felt about her rematch with Nitura.

Mordi also racked up 21 points built on 20 attacks and black for Adamson.

The Golden Tigresses now stand in fourth place with a 6-4 win-loss record and are set to face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Saturday, April 5, in the same venue.
