The UST Growling Tigers added former champion coach Juno Sauler to its coaching staff for the UAAP Season 87, sources told TomasinoWeb.

Sauler’s addition received the approval of UST’s special assistant to Rector for sports Alfrancis Chua, as first reported by the Tiebreaker Times.

Sauler will join head coach Pido Jarencio, top assistant coach Japs Cuan, and team manager Bonnie Tan in the Tigers’ lair.

A La Salle legend, Sauler boasts three UAAP women’s championships and one men’s title, which, coincidentally, came at the expense of the Growling Tigers.

Sauler’s Green Archers defeated the then Jarencio-mentored Tigers in the Season 76 finals, denying UST the championship over a decade ago.

Sauler is part of the Magnolia Hotshots coaching staff in the PBA, where he has also won one championship in 2018.

Recently, Sauler has been known for his “no zone defense” advocacy at the youth-level to improve players’ individual defensive games.

UST finished last season with just two wins in 14 games.
