Cassie Carballo led the way for the Tigresses with 15 excellent sets, while Jonna Perdido and Maribeth Hilongo posted nine and seven points, respectively, for their fifth win of the tournament.
UST’s swift attacks along with Carballo’s orchestrated offensive setups allowed the España-based squad to conclude the game in swift fashion, dominating the Katipunan-nested Eagles from start to finish.
Both teams trailed close to each other in the first set, with UST making 11 successful attacks over Ateneo’s 10, however, the Tigresses bested the Lady Eagles in securing the ball only yielding four errors against Ateneo’s 11.
The Tigresses took the first set by a large margin from the Lady Eagles, 25-15.
It was a closer second set with both teams going back and forth in scoring early on as well as converting 10 errors, thriving from each team’s mistakes.
However, the Tigresses had a much better showing offensively in this set, tallying 12 successful attacks over the Eagles' nine attacks along with three-of-four total service aces.
Though closer in points, Tigresses beat the Lady Eagles on the second set, 25-21.
Despite another leveled start for both teams on the final set, the Golden Tigresses took their game up a notch.
After nailing the Lady Eagles at 18 points in the latter minutes, UST tightened their defense closing off the Lady Eagles’ scoring and concluding the game at 25-18.
The Tigresses posted a spread scoring among their players with Regina Jurado, UST’s main scoring anchor tallying six points, a similar outing to Mary Banagua this game.
