The UST Growling Tigers (3-2) bow to the UP Fighting Maroons (5-0), 73-69, in overtime, for their second straight loss in the UAAP Season 86 women's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Kent Pastrana led the Tigresses’ offense with 19 points, while Tantoy Ferrer posted a double-double outing of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Even with a shaky first half, the Tigresses were able to come off on top in the earlier quarters, leading by 5 consistently until halftime
UST remained in control holding a 10-point lead over the Maroons, through multiple turnovers with their persistent defensive presses.
However, halfway through the third quarter, Kaye Pesquera came clutch for the Maroons as she led a 14-6 charge to close the gap for UP, 47-45.
Pesquera continued to be the biggest thorn on the side of the Tigresses, knocking down a triple that preluded a Louna Ozar's split charities to force OT.
Even with Ferrer’s hot hands and rebounding hustle, the Tigresses come short of containing the Maroons.
Both teams went scoreless for most of overtime but the Fighting Maroons completely took over, besting the Tigresses, 10-6 in overtime to seal the win.
Kaye Pesquera made 17 points on 4-of-6 from deep while Louna Ozar added 16 points and four steals
Brigette Santos and Rachelle Ambos were among the other scoring anchors of the team tallying 11 and nine, respectively.
The Tigresses look to rebound in their match against the Ateneo Blue Eagles next Wednesday, Oct. 18 in the Adamson University Gym.
