Former UST Growling Tigers Sherwin Concepcion, Bryan Santos, and Zach Huang will bring their talents to the pro ranks after being selected at the PBA Season 48 Draft at the Market Market! mall in Taguig, on Sunday, September 17.
Concepcion averaged 10.6 points, and 5.5 rebounds, while shooting 35 percent from the field, and 29.7 percent from beyond the arc in Season 84, making him the most prominent Tiger among all the draftees.
The six-foot-three sharpshooting forward led UST to the first UAAP 3x3 title in Season 84 and was also an integral part of the team’s Final Four runs in late 2010’s.
Concepcion was selected 27th overall by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters under head coach Yeng Guiao.
Meanwhile, Santos, 26, played in the UAAP Season 84 for the Growling Tigers, tallying 6.45 points, and 5.73 rebounds per game on 26-percent clip from the three-point line, good enough for the FiberXers to pick him as the 14th overall pick in the Draft.
Standing at six-foot-five, Santos, alongside Concepcion, was ruled ineligible to play in Season 85 due to age restrictions, preventing them from extending their college career with UST.
Santos will play for the Converge squad mentored by former Growling Tigers head coach Aldin Ayo, who was the last tactician to bring UST to the men’s basketball finals in 2019.
In addition, Meralco Bolts selected Huang for the 43rd overall pick, adding depth to the team’s forward rotations led by fellow UST alumnus Allein Maliksi.
Huang was part of the Growling Tigers’ bridesmaid runs in Season 78 and Season 82. The six-foot-three lefty normed 5.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in his final season with UST.
Other former Growling Tigers that also got selected were Joe Gomez De Liano (Phoenix Fuel Masters) in the 59th pick, Ian Herrera (Northport Batang Pier) in the 67th pick, and Enrique Caunan (Terrafirma Dyip) in the 70th pick.
The PBA Season 48 will start on November 5.
