The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses are in hopes to break the six-game winning streak of their Season 86 Finals nemesis NU Lady Bulldogs, on Sunday, March 16, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
UST comes into the match full of confidence after a dominant straight-set dub over the Ateneo Lady Blue Eagles last week.
Senior middle blocker Pia Abbu set a career-high 13 points in the win, while star players Angge Poyos and Regina Jurado contributed 19 and 14 points, respectively.
Deputy coach Yani Fernandez stressed the importance of the one-week break.
Captain Detdet Pepito is in sharp focus as they face her long-time best friend Bella Belen.
And, mas pagkatiwalaan namin ‘yong sistema na meron yung UST,” she said.
"Well, sana makaisa kami, Belen. Please, paisahin niyo naman kami. Pa - experience naman oh," she jokingly pleaded. Nakakainis!”
The Lady Bulldogs are on the brink of a first round sweep after a commanding three-set victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons on Wednesday.
Alyssa Solomon exploded for a game-high 22 points, while Bella Belen chipped in nine points and 12 digs.
The Tigresses are on a five-game winning streak themselves and currently sit in the third spot in the standings with a 5-1 win-loss record.
