LIST: UST activities, events commemorating 39th EDSA People Power anniversary

The University of Santo Tomas is set to hold activities and events to commemorate the 39th Anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

Secretary-General Fr. Louie Coronel encouraged Thomasians to participate and never forget the peaceful and collective action of Filipinos in toppling the Marcos dictatorship.

“Let us stand united and never forget that true power lies in the collective will of the people, and it is our responsibility to uphold the values of integrity, justice, and freedom for generations to come,” Fr. Coronel said in a circular posted on Feb. 14.

Here are the activities and events that Thomasians may attend:

February 25

  • A Mass for Peace by 7:30 a.m. at the Santísimo Rosario Parish
  • Holy Rosary for Peace and Prayer for Peace after the 7:30 a.m. mass
  • Prayer of Angelus by 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the campus grounds and buildings
  • Divine Mercy Prayer by 3 p.m. at the campus grounds and buildings
  • Lighting of campus landmarks in white by 6 p.m.

February 26

  • The Faculty of Arts and Letters invites Thomasians to join the “A Region in Transition: Elections and the Shifting Political Landscape in Muslim Mindanao,” a masterclass series led by AB professors at the George SK Ty Function Hall in the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. by 9 a.m.
  • The Department of Journalism will mount “Revisiting People Power through Film, Archives and Dialogue,” an archive exhibit and panel discussion with journalists, filmmakers, and content creators at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium by 1 p.m.
  • The Artlets Student Council and the Legal Management Society will conduct a film screening of the 2024 Cinemalaya film “Balota” and a talkback session with Director Kipp Oebanda at the Central Laboratory Auditorium by 1 p.m.

February 27

  • The UST Simbahayan Community Development Office is set to hold the “Lecture-Discussion on the Life, Works, and Spirituality of Frs. Pedro Salgado, OP & Gustavo Gutierrez, OP” by 9 a.m. via Zoom Meetings.

February 28

  • The Central Student Council and the Simbahayan Community Development Office will conduct “KULTURALAN: Kultura at Aral para sa Karapatan,” a talent showcase, at the TARC Auditorium by 5 p.m.
