The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses yielded to the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 19-25, 25-16, 14-25, 20-25, in their UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament opener on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Poyos led UST in scoring, finishing with 13 points built on 11 attacks and two blocks while Margaret Altea and Reg Jurado conjured up 10 points each in the losing effort.

FEU charged right out of the gate, taking advantage of the Tigresses' lackluster defense to go up 6-10 early in the first set.

UST tied it up at 11-all through a 5-0 run fueled by a service error from FEU's Jean Asis.

FEU escaped from the Tigresses as offensive barrages from Asis and Mitzi Panangin sealed the first set for the Lady Tamaraws, 25-19.

The Tigresses regained composure as they started the second canto off with a 5-1 run through offensive efforts from Poyos, Jurado, and Pia Abbu.

UST continued to cruise throughout the second set as their offense continued to rain down on the Tamaraws’ parade to tie the match at one set all through a Jurado tip-over, 25-16.

FEU re-asserted their dominance in the third set as they unleashed a massive 11-2 run to bring their lead up to nine, 13-4.

UST's lackluster offense persisted through the set as a kill from Faida Bakanke and an attack from Asis gave FEU their one-set advantage back, 14-25.

FEU held the advantage coming into the first technical timeout of the fourth salvo, 8-5, through a block from the Lady Tamaraws.

Errors by the Lady Tamaraws and a finish from Abbu helped UST regain a two-point lead midway through the set, 12-10.

FEU then unleashed a 4-1 run late in the set to take a two-point lead, 19-21, before two costly errors from the Tigresses ultimately gave FEU the win, 25-20.

Bakanke powered the Lady Tamaraws on their win over UST with 16 points built on 14 attacks and two blocks.

Gerzel Petallo and Asis also proved solid for FEU after notching 15 and 14 points respectively, along with Chenie Tagaod with 10 points.

The Tigresses will look to get back to winning ways as they face the University of the East Lady Red Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
