UST Communications Bureau Assistant Director Faye Abugan confirmed on Thursday, Dec. 19, that she will assume a lower position at UST’s media and communications arm for the second term.
Starting Jan. 1, 2025, Abugan will serve as the business manager for Tiger Media Network (TMN), switching roles with current business manager Earl Pantoja.
According to Abugan, her appointment as assistant director was not renewed.
“Basta hindi na ako nakatanggap ng [renewal notice.] I really don’t know what the reasons are, but it’s their prerogative if they will renew me or not,” Abugan told TomasinoWeb.
The founding head of TMN received the notice only last week.
As she transitions to her new role, Abugan anticipates a “lighter workload” but expects her involvement with TMN to remain largely unchanged.
“As business manager, I anticipate that the workload is lighter because mawawala yung administrative duty inside the Comms Bureau office, and in terms of the involvement with TMN, I’d like to think na ganon pa rin sana. [I’ll be] in charge of the growth, platforms, in terms of business, financial, and audience, mas doon ang focus,” Abugan said.
She expressed confidence in Pantoja, an instructor at the College of Commerce’s Department of Marketing Management, who has been with TMN for two years.
“I trust na alam niya na ang gagawin, [and that he will] take care of the kids because mas malawak ang responsibility,” she said.
“Before it was just business, getting sponsors, but right now it’s really more. He will be involved in everything: operations, human resources, productions, and business pa rin,” she added.
The assistant director hopes that Pantoja will “uphold the legacy of Tiger Radio and Tiger TV in the campus.”
Tiger TV’s Paskuhan Xtra live stream coverage will be Abugan’s last project before stepping down from her position.
Abugan is a tenured assistant professor at the Faculty of Arts and Letters’ Department of Communication and also the current adviser of TMN, directing University-wide events such as the Paskuhan festivities.
