The UST Growling Tigresses crushed the FEU Lady Tamaraws, 70-54, in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament on Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Tigresses have secured their sixth consecutive Final Four appearance in the league since Season 80 following the 16-point lead win.
Tacky Tacatac led the streak with 12 points, two assists, and three steals while Kent Pastrana contributed 11 points for the victory.
The first quarter saw an exchange of two-point baskets from both l teams, while Ayesha Pescador's three-point bucket gave the Tigresses the lead, 14-11.
FEU’s Joann Nagma then answered with a lay up which CJ Maglupay quickly countered with her own bucket to hold the lead after the quarter, 16-13.
Pastrana drained two consecutive two-pointers to notch nine points in the second canto alone. Long bombs from the Tigresses gave them an advantage to run away with a 17-point lead by halftime, 41-24.
Eka Soriano opened up the third frame with a three while Brigette Santos followed up another one from the deep to extend the lead to 26 points.
Tacatac followed up on UST’s three-point party with two consecutive three-point shots at the last seconds of the quarter, 60-36.
The Tigresses slowed down in the final quarter giving the Lady Tamaraws a chance to slim down the lead to 15.
UST sneaked two point baskets to maintain the lead and claim the win, 70-54.
Nagma collected 11 points for the Lady Tamaraws while Yvette Villanueva and Shane Salvani combined for 18 points in the losing effort.
The Tigresses (9-1) currently sit at the second spot of the standings, behind their championship rivals NU Lady Bulldogs (9-0). The two teams will meet again on Nov. 6, in the same venue.
