The confetti was for real this time.
The UST Golden Tigresses succeeded over the FEU Lady Tamaraws in a do-or-die game to cop the V-League Collegiate Challenge Women’s Division championship, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 25-14, on Friday, Oct. 4, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
UST setter Cassie Carballo tallied 19 excellent sets and five points to cap off the conference as the Finals MVP.
Returning to the series is season’s MVP Angge Poyos who racked up 31 points from 29 attacks, and two service aces, followed by Regina Jurado and Jonnah Perdido who combined for 25 points.
The opening salvo saw an intense exchange of attacks as both teams tried to overpower each other but a block from Faida Bakanke and an attack error from Perdido resulted in a 26-24 set win in favor of FEU.
UST went on an early 4-0 run at the start of the second frame but the Lady Tamaraws crept up slowly until an attack from Bakanke allowed the Morayta-based squad to hold a 3-point lead at the second technical timeout, 13-16.
Star spiker season’s MVP Poyos took over late in the set to score three straight attack points with the help of a service ace from Carballo to end the set at 25-20.
The España-based squad trailed early in the third set, 1-5, but quickly regrouped and went on a 7-1 run courtesy of attacks from Poyos and Perdido to turn the tide, 9-7.

The Golden Tigresses continued their barrage of attacks to pull away early in the fourth canto and hold a 10-point lead at the second technical timeout, 16-6.
Gerz Petallo scored two straight points to try and pull the Lady Tamaraws back to the game, but Jurado’s consecutive attack points closed the door on FEU, 25-14.
Faida Bakanke and Jean Asis scored 16 and 12 points, respectively, as the only players who scored in double digits for the Morayta-based squad.
The Golden Tigresses will face the LPU Lady Pirates in the ongoing 2024 Shakey’s Super League Pre-season Championship on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
