The University of Santo Tomas Teletigers ESports Club - Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team asserted their supremacy against last year’s bronze medalist Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 2-0, in the UAAP Season 87 ML:BB tournaments on Tuesday, May 13, at the Quantum Skyview Deck of Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City.
TGR held the lead in Game 1 as Ramuell Belga denied a comeback attempt by the Tamaraws, built on Kevin Reyes, who pulled off a savage killing streak, 1-0.
UST followed it up with a commanding win in a one-sided game 2 to clinch the win and complete the sweep, 2-0.
Belga, using Kalea, tallied a 2-1-9 kill-death-assists record to steer the Teletigers to their first win.
"Honestly, it's good for the morale [of the team to win against FEU], yung naka 2-0 nga kami. It just means* na ‘yung pinagtrabahuan namin* is effective and it's working for us," said UST ML:BB head coach Hemogenes Arayata IV.
The España-based squad continued their dominant streak in the second day as they swept the Adamson University Falcons, 2-0, to secure their tickets to the semifinals.
The Teletigers cruised past the Falcons in the opening matchup, as Julian Ortega’s Fanny showed a commanding performance after registering a 9-1-4 kill-death-assist record to put UST up, 1-0
Benjamin Lukban as Granger then tallied a maniac killing streak in a 5-vs-2 clash in the 10th minute of the game, ultimately resulting in the España-based squad sealing the win, 2-0.
“It's a happy feeling perothe credit goes to my team and the players kasi sila talaga ‘yung naghirap dun. They want it. They're hungry, kaya gutom rin ako para sa kanila,” said Arayata.
“We were really focused on a lot of the macro and micro gameplay. What happened good or great for us is we were able to play what we wanted to play,” he added.
TGR’s ML:BB squad will clash against the National University Bulldogs on Thursday, May 15, in the same venue.
