The UST Golden Tigresses secured a commanding victory over the CSB Lady Blazers, 25-20, 25-16, 25-13, in Game 1 of the 2024 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge semifinals on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Cassie Carballo was named player of the game, orchestrating the Tigresses’ offense with 15 excellent sets and four points of her own.

Meanwhile, UST power hitters Angge Poyos and Reg Jurado were in scoring form, logging 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Returning from a foot injury, Jonna Perdido showed no adjustment contributing 13 significant points.

UST ignited a 4-0 lead to start the contest, creating a gap that they held throughout the set, with Em Banagua sealing the opener with a monster block, 25-20.

The Lady Blazers made a strong 5-1 run early in the second frame, but struggled midway, allowing UST to rally back through timely attacks from Jurado, Perdido, and Francine Osis. Poyos finished the set with an ace, 25-16.

In the final set, UST's wingers continued to break down the walls of Benilde, recording 17 kills compared to Benilde's Seven.

CSB, on the other hand, made a crucial service error which gave the Tigresses the first of a best-of-three series with a 25-13 scoreline.

Mary Grace Borromeo was the only player to score double digits for CSB with 10 points from nine attacks and one block.

In the men's semi-finals, the Golden Spikers are also one win away from dethroning V-League defending champions DLSU.

The Tigresses will try to close out the best-of-three semis and return to the finals once again on Sunday at 12 p.m, at the same venue.
