UST Growling Tigers center Echo Laure was the subject of a brawl in a game against the Smash Basketball Team at a Sulit Breakdown basketball game on Wednesday, June 12 at the Moro Lorenzo Gym.
Laure, a former NU Bullpup and the younger brother of UST volleyball icons, EJ and Eya Laure was seen squaring up with a player from the said team in a video that surfaced online through the social media platform “X” on the same day.
According to a source, it was originally a player from Smash Basketball that sparked the commotion between the two teams.
This was after players from the opposing team continuously provoked Laure before being handed an unsportsmanlike foul.
Players from the opposition however, continued to provoke the UST big man.
Laure, as a form of retribution, approached a player from the opposite team sporting the number 10, grabbing him by the jersey, before proceeding to choke the said player.
Upon releasing the player, opposing players swarmed Laure before UST assistant coach Juben Ledesma intervened to tone down the chaos.
The organizers halted the game with three minutes left in the first quarter, with UST up by two, 18-16.
The Growling Tigers have yet to release a statement regarding the commotion that transpired.
The Sulit Breakdown Basketball tournament is a league joined by local basketball clubs and collegiate teams from both the UAAP and the NCAA.
UST will be facing the Arellano Chiefs on Saturday, June 15 at the same venue.
