The UST Golden Booters wrapped up their UAAP Season 86 Final Four campaign after falling to the UP Fighting Maroons on penalties, 1-1 (7-8) on Thursday, May 9, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium

The loss meant that UST would finish their season in third place ahead of the Ateneo Blue Eagles, who also lost their matchup against the top-seeded FEU Tamaraws earlier that day.

With both teams jousting for the lead, UP talisman Francis Tacardon broke the deadlock with the flick of a boot to give the Fighting Maroons a 1-0 cushion just before halftime.

A UST counterattack then saw Golden Booter hotshot TJ Garciano score an equalizer off the hands of UP goalkeeper Alfonso Gonzalez in the 57th minute to tie the match up at 1-1.

Miguel Abada put on a goalkeeping display in the second half, fending off a flurry of attacking sequences and close calls from the Fighting Maroons to keep UST leveled with UP coming into extra time and the penalty shootout.

Abada saved the opening shot to give the Golden Booters an early advantage during the Penalty shootout.

Gonzalez gave UP the upper hand after saving a shot from Andrew Ramos while Jay Vercide hit the crossbar to ultimately give UP the win, 8-7 on penalties.

UP will face defending champions FEU in the finals on Thursday, May 16, at the same venue.
