After 11 years, the University finally secured a spot in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Rankings list as the third-highest-ranking university in the Philippines.
For the rankings’ 2024 edition, the University landed in the 601+ bracket, with a total score of 14.7-24.0, on par with Mapua University, according to the rankings released on Wednesday, May 1.
Last year, the University received only a “reporter” status, which means they submitted data but failed in one or various criteria used for ranking.
Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) remained the top Philippine university as it was placed on the 401-500 bracket with a 28.1-31.4 overall score.
De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines tied at no. 2 as both were classified in the 501-600 bracket with a 24.1–28.0 score.
In its 12th edition, THE introduced a new methodology, adding research quality, and replacing citation indicators to encapsulate excellence, influence, number of patents, and research strength.
THE ranked universities according to their performance across several categories: research quality (30 percent), industry (10 percent), international outlook (7.5 percent), research environment (28 percent), and teaching (24.5 percent).
The University led the other Philippine universities in international outlook with a 67.0 score, but it lagged behind peers for research quality (21.3) and research environment (11.5), while remaining in the middle for industry (20.7), and teaching (23.4).
Tsinghua University in China is the no. 1 University in Asia with a 92.8 overall score, closely followed by Peking University in 2nd place (92.6). Both universities are from China.
The National University of Singapore is third with a 91.2 score.
In the 2024 World University Rankings, UST is in the 1501+ bracket and claimed third place among all Philippine education institutions alongside De La Salle University.
