The UST Golden Spikers ended the UAAP Season 86 elimination round with a four-set loss to the DLSU Green Spikers 20-25, 27-25, 20-25, 18-25, on Saturday, April 27, at the Araneta Coliseum.

The loss put the Golden Spikers on an 8-6 win-loss record, enough to clinch the fourth seed.

Josh Ybañez led the scoring for UST, racking up 24 markers on 22 attacks and two service aces, followed by GBoy De Vega's 15 points, and Sherwin Umandal's 12 in the losing effort for UST.

UST held a two-point lead early into the first set but soon found themselves down by five after a string of errors from the Golden Spikers sparked a 5-1 run for La Salle, 9-14.

La Salle held a firm grip of their lead and won the set, 25-20, through an attack from Billie Anima and an attack error from Ybañez.

An extended second set saw both teams trade points before a kill from Umandal pulled the España-based squad to set point. De Vega won the set for UST, 27-25, to tie the set score.

Both teams were caught in another tight set in the third frame before a bad fall from Ybañez saw him sit out the remainder of the set while trailing, 18-20.

Taking advantage of the situation, the Green Spikers managed to break free in the waning moments of the set through another 5-1 run before a block from Nat Del Pilar and an attack from Noel Kampton put La Salle on the brink of winning the match, 25-20.

Kampton led La Salle to victory in the fourth, scoring seven out of his 18 points in the set alone, while an attack error from Ybañez ultimately sent UST packing.

JM Ronquillo topped La Salle’s scoring department with 21 points followed by Vince Maglinao who dropped 19 points while Kampton mustered 18 markers.

Handicapped by a twice-to-win disadvantage, the Golden Spikers are set to start their final four campaign against the top-seeded FEU Tamaraws on Sunday, May 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
