The UST Golden Tigresses dominated the UE Lady Red Warriors in straight sets, 25-19, 25-9, 25-17, to move closer to a twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday, April 21, at the Araneta Coliseum.

Bouncing back from a five-set loss against the FEU Tamaraws, Angge Poyos exploded for 25 points off 21 attacks, one block, and three aces, while Cassie Carballo orchestrated the Tigresses' offense with 17 excellent sets.

UST currently sits in a three-way tie with the NU Lady Bulldogs and DLSU Lady Spikers, all boasting an 11-2 record ahead of the final set of games next weekend.

The Red Warriors seemed in control early after UST's error-plagued start before Regina Jurado paved the way for the Tigresses through back-to-back service aces that forced an early deadlock at 5-5.

With 16 attacks in the first set, UST then barraged through UE’s defenses with a streak of Jurado, Pia Abbu, and Poyos attacks, closing out the set from a quick of returning middle blocker, Em Banagua, 25-19.

UST was on a roll in the second salvo, jumping to a 5-0 start early before holding the Red Warriors to a single-digit output for the remainder of the set, 25-9.

UE kept it close until UST broke away from a 12-all tie through a 13-5 finishing run to seal the lopsided win, 25-17.

Kc Cepada produced nine points, while Casiey Dongallo helped with seven points as no UE player made double-digit points in the three-set matchup.

The Tigresses are set to play a high-stakes matchup against DLSU for the twice-to-beat berth to wrap up the elimination period and determine the final outcome in the Final Four.

UST goes against the defending champions on April 27, Saturday, at the same venue.

Miguel Sumalinog is the President of TomasinoWeb. Mostly known as “Suma” among his friends and peers, he was exposed to campus media and photography way before he was a Thomasian and owes major credit to those initial experiences. He portrays his commitment through his various outputs in photography especially in covering UAAP content for the publication. As leads in TomasinoWeb’s Photography department, he has exposure to the non-stop action that the UAAP and other leagues offer. Outside of the sports beat, Suma also covers various campus events and national happenings as work doesn’t stop with his beat alone and venturing out of it provides experience that cannot be taught within the four corners of a classroom. When he’s not fanboying over Eya Laure and Cassie Carballo during volleyball coverages, Suma spends most of his time in front of his computer playing VALORANT and other various competitive games. He also passes time on the court by playing badminton.
