The UST Golden Spikers succumbed to the top-seeded FEU Tamaraws, 23-25, 27-25, 22-25, 15-25, absorbing their fifth loss in the UAAP Season 86 men's volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Saturday, April 13.

Josh Ybañez led UST’s scoring department with 21 points, while GBoy de Vega logged 14 points as the Golden Spikers slid to 7-5.

Martin Bugaoan posted 21 points to drive the Tamaraws to stay at the top spot of the league with a 10-1 win-loss card.

UST surrendered the first frame to the Tamaraws, ending the set with a costly attack error from Ybañez, 23-25.

After FEU jumped on a 7-2 start, the Golden Spikers then took over the second salvo as Ybañez and Trevor Valera connected on timely kills to snatch their only set win, 27-25.

Ybañez unleashed a kill block, 7-5, before FEU pulled a 5-1 run to regain the advantage en route to a third-set takeover, 22-25.

Following a nip-and-tuck start, the Tamaraws ultimately zoomed to a 12-4 run that turned a two-point deficit to a 15-25 turnaround to end the game.

The Golden Spikers remain at fourth place after 12 games, but fifth-seed Ateneo Blue Eagles are close behind with a 5-6 card and 11 games played.

UST will look to bounce back against the UE Red Warriors on April 21, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
