The UST Tennisters will fight a do-or-die game after losing their respective Game Two Finals matches in the UAAP Season 86 tennis tournaments on Saturday, April 6, at the Rizal Memorial Complex.

The UST Male Tennisters failed to sweep their way to a second-straight title in Game 2 versus the Ateneo Blue Eagles, narrowly losing 2-3.

Ateneo's recently crowned Rookie of the Year Axl Gonzaga along with Nio Tria started the match with a 6-1, 6-2 thrashing of Male Tennisters Richard Bautista and Nash Agustines.

UST’s Ericjay Tangub, however, brought the standoff to a deadlock after outpacing Austin De Los Santos, 6-3, 6-1.

Ateneo’s Noy Seno got the lead back for the blue and white after outlasting reigning Season 86 MVP Nilo Ledama in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The España-based duo of Steven Sonsona and Symon Jaculan held off Jj Llavore and Stef Gurria, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, to bring the matchup into a decider.

Ateneo ultimately came out on top after JD Velez outgunned Tennister Sebastian Santos, 6-4, 6-4.

On the distaff side, the Female Tennisters also failed to bring home the gold after bowing to the NU Lady Bulldogs, 1-3, earlier in the day.

Newly-crowned Season MVP Kaye Emana provided UST’s only win of the game, a 6-0, 6-1 domination over NU’s Angela Cabaral.

From then on, the Lady Bulldogs won three straight matches, starting with the duo of Alyssa Bornia and Alliah Ragunton, who outclassed UST’s Miles Vitaliano and Debbie Gom-os 6-4, 6-1.

Lady Tennister Alex Santos, who suffered a right foot injury, conceded her first UAAP match in two seasons against Elsie Abarquez, 6-3, 6-4.

NU sealed the deal after the pair of Danna Abad and Rovie Baulete routed UST’s Minette Bentillo and Justine Maneja in a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Both losses meant that the Tennisters will play championship deciders against their respective opponents tomorrow, April 7, at the same venue.
