The resurrection of Christ reminds us to uphold the truth and be bearers of it amid the deluge of misinformation and disinformation everywhere, Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula said on April 1.
In his Easter Monday homily at the Manila Cathedral, the cardinal remarked that even at present, there remain individuals who “question the veracity of the resurrection,” particularly among the Jews, comparing it to how we, at times, “find ourselves grappling with Good News.”
“Ayaw agad nating maniwala sa mabuting balita. Given the multitude of falsehoods and fake news we encounter, we often doubt the authenticity of Good News,” Advincula said.
He also underscored three key points: truth will triumph, Easter is a life-giving encounter, and Easter is our spiritual treasure, highlighting the significance of embracing our role as people of Easter.
Jesus’s apostles were subject to ridicule, persecution, and even death for preaching news of His resurrection. However, Advincula said that the truth eventually prevailed.
“Tandaan natin, anumang totoo, anumang mabuti, ay laging magtatagumpay,” he said.
The Cardinal also explained that merely seeing is different from encountering Jesus. Despite the apostles’ retreat after His passion and death, He still accepted them in His divine presence, transforming their lives.
“[D]ivine revelation unfolded as he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and divine love ignited their hearts in His presence. These encounters transformed their lives, reinforcing the authenticity of their message,” he said.
Advincula encouraged the faithful to open their hearts to encounter Jesus and recognize that we serve Him.
“Open your heart to His presence and let Him reveal Himself. He longs to encounter you just as He did with the apostles,” Advincula said.
At the end of his homily, the Cardinal invited people to ask for guidance from the Blessed Virgin Mary to help them be the “bearers of the truth of the gospel.”
Easter Monday follows Easter Sunday, signifying the second day of Eastertide in Christian custom.
