The UST Golden Tigresses suffered their first loss of the season against the NU Lady Bulldogs, 25-23, 17-25, 21-25, 20-25, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday, March 24 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Angge Poyos led the España-based squad with 18 points, while Reg Jurado chipped in 11 points.
Bella Belen took charge in NU’s scoring department, unleashing 24 points from 21 attacks, two blocks, and one ace.
The Tigresses started the match strong and snatched the first set from the Bulldogs with a down-the-line attack from Jurado, 25-23.
The two teams were neck-and-neck in the early moments of the second salvo, but the Bulldogs snatched control, handing the Tigresses their biggest deficit of the match, 17-25.
Poyos fired a crosscourt attack to regain the advantage, 16-15, before a Belen-led rally ended the third set, 21-25.
NU took advantage of their momentum in the fourth set, setting the tone early to ultimately put away UST's season-sweeping hopes.
A service ace by Alyssa Solomon wrapped up the set, ending UST’s eight-game winning streak.
The Tigresses still own the top spot with an 8-1 record, while the Lady Bulldogs sit on third place with a 7-2 record.
UST is set to face the Adamson Lady Falcons (2-6), on April 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
