The UST Golden Booters settled for a draw against the DLSU Green Booters, 1-1, in their fifth game of the UAAP Season 86 men’s football tournament on Thursday, March 14, at the UP Diliman Football Pitch.

Green Booters forward Franck Anoh drew first blood when he found the back of the net off a penalty in injury time of the first half, 1-0.

The Golden Booters drew level at the 61st-minute after key substitute Kyler Ken Escobar dished out a well-timed pass to midfielder TJ Garciano, who broke UST’s cold spell to equalize, 1-1.

DLSU’s Anoh took advantage of key passes from the get-go, but got frustrated by the Golden Booters’ offside trap four times in the first 20 minutes of action.

UST conceded four yellow cards, with defenders John Mark Garcia and Jarred Regis receiving back-to-back yellows in the 45th and 46th minutes, respectively. Regis’s yellow in the 18-yard box led to Anoh’s penalty and the opening goal of the match.

Garciano took the Golden Booters’ third yellow card in the 66th minute, while JP Baito added a fourth at the 96th-minute mark of added time.

Despite their best efforts, neither team capitalized on goal opportunities, and both teams shared the spoils after regulation.

Both UST (2-2-1) and DLSU (2-1-2) receive a point for the draw and remain in the top four teams in the standings.

The UST Golden Booters will reassemble and try to snatch a win over the top-seeded Ateneo Blue Eagles on Sunday, March 17, at the same venue.
