UAAP and Cignal TV officially renewed their broadcast partnership during a conference held on Monday, June 30, at the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building in the University of Santo Tomas, this season's host school.
The renewal extended the partnership from Season 89 to 93, continuing a collaboration that began in 2020 after the league transitioned from ABS-CBN as its longtime broadcast partner. Since then, Cignal TV has become the home of UAAP sports across television and digital platforms.
In his welcoming remarks, Season 88 chairman and University Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. said the renewal would "lay the groundwork for future collaboration and activities together."
"UAAP and Cignal TV, they share the vision of elevating sports and sportsmanship and also empowering students and athletes," he said. "This will be the start of a beautiful collaboration."
Cignal TV President and CEO Jane Jimenez-Basas expressed gratitude for the league's continued trust and reflected on how far the partnership has come.
Over the past five years, they have worked together to expand coverage of collegiate and junior high school tournaments. The partnership has delivered the broadest possible reach, with games aired on One Sports and the exclusive UAAP Varsity Channel. For mobile-user audiences, Cignal TV made the games accessible through the Pilipinas Live app, reaching even fans nationwide.
Much has already been achieved, but Cignal TV emphasized that there is still more to be done as they look ahead to five more years of growth with the UAAP community.
UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rene Andrei Saguisag Jr. echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership strengthens the league's goals. He emphasized their shared vision to "highlight student-athletes' talents and continue inspiring the next generation of champions."
The renewed partnership comes ahead of Season 88, which UST will formally open in the third week of September.
