The UST Tiger Shuttlers succumbed to the UP Fighting Maroons, crumbling 0-3, in the bronze medal match of the UAAP Season 86 Badminton Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Centro Atletico Badminton Center in Quezon City.

The Tiger Shuttlers’ Sean Dela Cruz matched up with UP’s Kervin Llanes in the opening match, with the latter dispensing Dela Cruz in a sweep, 14-21, 11-21.

Meanwhile, the second single’s match featured UST’s Lennox Culiao bowing down to Fighting Maroons' Jelo Albo’s dominant outing in two sets, 9-21, 12-21.

Following the Tiger Shuttlers' defeats in their first two singles matches, the doubles match decided the match's final outcome. UP's Kervin Llanes and Jelo Albo defeated UST's Kyle Basilio and Munir Bartolome, 17-21, 13-21.

The University of the Philippines claimed the bronze medal for this year’s iteration of the UAAP men’s badminton tournament, while UST finished fourth.

Moreover, the UST Lady Shuttlers suffered the same fate, claiming only the first doubles match against the NU Lady Bulldogs, settling outside of the podium.

The first single’s match showed a dominant outing from NU’s Karyll Rio as she swept UST’s Patricia De Leon, 14-21, 11-21.

UST’s Maria Belen kicked off the second single’s match with a clean start, 13-6, before NU’s Ysabel Amora executed an 11-0 run, controlling the tone, 13-17.

The extended set ended with Amora scoring two straight points, claiming the first set, 20-22.

The second match didn't swing in Belen’s favor as NU’s Amora rallied to an 11-21 scoreline in the penultimate set to win the match as the Lady Bulldogs lead 2-0.

UST’s Jenn Saladaga and Rhafi Santos extended the series as they squeezed past NU’s duo of Sarah Barredo and Lee Ann de Leon after faltering to a close first set, 20-22, 21-11, 21-19.

The Lady Shuttlers came back in the first set from 18-20 and extended the set to 20-all before NU answered with two of their own to claim the set, 20-22.

Momentum shifted back to UST’s favor as Santos and Saladaga released a 21-11 second set scoreline to pursue the final set.

UST’s Patricia de Leon and Marielle Alvarez were downed by NU's Jeya Pinlac and Alyssa Desacola in two sets, 16-21, 18-21, as the Lady Bulldogs closed it out in the second doubles matchup, claiming the bronze medal of the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Badminton tournament.

Meanwhile, Lady Shuttlers’ Patricia De Leon was recognized as the Rookie of the Year in the UAAP Season 86 women’s badminton tournament.

Both squads failed to bag any medals in the tournaments.
