The UST Golden Sox withstood the UP Fighting Maroons to eke out a 15-11 victory and secure the last remaining slot in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 86 men's baseball tournament at the UP Pitch on Saturday, April 6.

The win means the Golden Sox will face defending champions DLSU Green Batters, which hold a twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four.

The Golden Sox controlled the tempo from the get-go, scoring seven hits in the first two innings to establish an 8-0 lead early.

After exhausting four pitchers early, UP relied on Kobe Torres until the fourth inning, before UST stretched the lead further to 13-0 after costly errors by the Maroons.

However, UP's Ian Mercado ignited the counter rally, capping a five-run bottom at the fourth inning, which was followed by seven runs in the next three innings that chopped the Golden Sox's edge to three going into the final inning.

UST then leaned on reigning MVP Justine Rosales who catalyzed a defensive stop in the final play, punctuated by a game-sealing throw to teammate and first baseman Alwyn Pinero for the double play.

The victory not only secured the Golden Sox a spot in the playoffs but also salvaged their promising campaign this season after losing five of their last six games.

After starting the season 3-1, UST ended eliminations at 4-6.

As of writing, the schedule for the semifinals of the baseball tournament is yet to be announced.
