The UST Lady Booters opened their UAAP Season 86 campaign with a narrow defeat to the UP Fighting Maroons, 0-1, on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.
UP took advantage of a misplaced pass from UST's defensive line, allowing Anya Fuentes to place the ball at the back of the net in the 22nd minute.
Fuentes' goal was the only one scored in the match.
The Lady Booters failed to capitalize on their attacks and a penalty kick from Jearfelyn Ramos, which UP's Frances Acelo denied.
In the second half, UST's goalkeeper Lizlie Garcia was stretchered out of the stadium after an attacking sequence from UP caused Anya Fuentes to collide with Garcia.
Gleydile Anonuevo and Lovely Garcia also missed their chances at tying the match for UST in the second half.
The Lady Booters are set to face the defending champions, FEU Lady Tamaraws, on Saturday, March 2, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.—With reports from Johann Coronel
