Flower vendors at Bulaklakan ng Maynila or Dangwa in Sampaloc affirmed prices of best-selling flowers won't further swell on Valentine’s day, Feb. 14, despite the influx of patrons on its eve.
Patrons across the capital region, specifically Thomasians, preferred a colorful array of Tulips priced at P150 per stem, Ecuadorian roses worth P250 per stem, and Indian roses that cost P600 per 10 stems according to vendors on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Tulips were formerly priced at P100 per stem, making a P50 increase, and 10 stems of Indian roses are worth P400, garnering a P200 increase as the season of love approaches.
A famous flower store owner told TomasinoWeb that Dangwa would be busier on Tuesday night until lunchtime on Feb. 14, and prices won't be affected due to the current demand.
Flower pop-up vendors were seen near the outside gates of the University, selling rose bouquets priced at P300, sunflower stems worth P120, and P200 roses.
A stall owner near Padre Noval gate said her stand is strategically placed for students' convenience as Dangwa is approximately 750 meters from the University. They expect students to purchase flowers on Feb. 14 because of the "freshness of flowers.”
Despite the prevalence of dried flowers and online stores selling flowers due to convenience, both vendors clarify that patrons prefer fresh flowers over dried ones due to their "meaning," as dried flowers are meant for longevity.
According to Flowerstore PH, an NCR-based online gift store, Tulips express admiration, happiness, royalty, and purity.
Roses are conveyed to give the recipient a feeling of enchantment, infidelity, grace, and fascination, according to the online store Holland Tulips.
