To see Jesus is to pray for us to see and be seen by Him, and show Him to others, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula said during the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
According to Advincula during his homily on the Misa Mayor for the Feast of the Black Nazarene, seeing Jesus will grant us protection and eternal life, and assured the devotees that He wishes to do the same.
"Ito rin ang gusto para sa atin ng mahal na Poong Hesus Nazareno, gusto niyang makita natin siya kaya manalig tayo sa kanya," he said.
The Manila Archbishop expressed his gratitude to the Black Nazarene for allowing them to hold the Traslacion procession after three years of suspension due to Covid-19.
He also talked about how Jesus sees, and understands every experience of the people no matter who they are and what situation they are in.
"Nakikita niya ang pagtitiis ng mga may sakit, pagod ng manggagawa, pagsisikap ng mga mahihirap, sakripisyo ng mga tapat na lider at lingkod ng bayan," the Archbishop said.
Advincula encourages the devotees to help each other so everyone to see Jesus as they go through the different practices during the procession.
"[I]pakita si Hesus na inaakay tayo sa pagbabagong buhay katulad ng ginagawa natin tuwing Traslación," he said.
Meanwhile, this year's celebration featured a new andas or carriage for the image of the Black Nazarene, and the devotees are not allowed to climb it.
Traslación started early in the morning as the image left the Quirino Grandstand heading towards the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo.
According to the Manila Police District, the estimated arrival of the 400-year-old image of Jesus at the Quiapo Church is 9:00 P.M.
