UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe head coach Mark Anthony Chaiwalla hinted that a ‘monsters’ theme awaits its fans and supporters for the upcoming UAAP Season 85 cheerdance competition on Dec. 10, Saturday, 4:00 p.m., at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Chaiwalla bared that their theme, which was supposed to be used two years back, is dedicated to the troupe’s supporters who also pitched in the fruition of the routine.

“This year, since we are now back to the full-blast CDC, we chose this theme so that we could give back to the people who supports because it’s basically them who suggested this theme,” Chaiwalla told TomasinoWeb.

The five-year coach of Salinggawi stated that the fans can expect a much more improved pep squad in terms of its cheerdance elements following a fourth-place finish in the last iteration of the CDC.

Chaiwalla added that if everything goes well on Saturday, it will not be far that Salinggawi will return to cheerdance glory, a feat they have not achieved since 2006.

“You’ll definitely see a much more improved Salinggawi this year, as a whole, specifically with the elements as well. As long as everything will go well and I believe everything is going to go well on the day itself, it’s not going to be far that Salinggawi will be back on top,” said Chaiwalla.

IPEA Secretary and UAAP Season 85 Chair for Special Events Asst. Prof Gilda Kamus announced that this year’s CDC will have a ‘full-house’ audience and bands from all eight universities are now allowed to perform, subject to limitations and rotations requested by the panel of judges and the Mall of Asia Arena.

Kamus also bared that the league will revert to its pre-pandemic rules of 15–25 performers and five to six minutes of cheerdance given.

“Para mabigyan ng mas maraming time yung mga performers to enjoy their routine,” said Kamus.

The University will send off the Salinggawi Dance Troupe with a Pep Rally tomorrow, 7:30 p.m., at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
