The University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers whipped the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in straight sets, 25-17, 25-20, 25-11, in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday, April 23, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Josh Ybañez led UST’s balanced attacking with 15 points built on 12 attacks and three aces.

Popoy Colinares and Jan Macam both manufactured 11 markers en-route to the Golden Spiker's fifth straight win.

UST bursted right out of the gate in the first set as the starters held on to an early eight-point separation, 25-17.

The Golden Spikers unleashed 19 attacks in the opener alone.

Ybañez delivered three consecutive aces to help UST build an early 12-6 advantage in the second set.

UP showed signs of life with a 5-1 run to narrow the gap, 23-20, but Olayemi Raheem’s attack sailed long to hand UST the set, 25-20.

The Golden Spikers gave no breathing room in the third frame as they raced to a commanding 13-3 lead.

UST buried the Fighting Maroons by as much as 14 points and never looked back, 25-11.

Raheem led the scorers for the Diliman-based squad with 10 points.

The Golden Spikers remain firm at the third spot in the Final Four with a 9-4 win-loss record.

UST will look to end the elimination round strong against the National University Bulldogs on Sunday, April 27, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
