Injury woes have shaken up the lineup but Marga Altea made sure to step up.
With Em Banagua nursing a finger injury, the Golden Tigresses were forced to reshuffle its rotation once again, pushing Altea back to her high school roots as a middle blocker.
In the sweep against the Ateneo Lady Eagles, rookie Altea tallied 10 points built from seven attacks and three blocks, including the game-winning denial at the net.
Altea admitted she felt more confident and in control playing the middle position again.
“Mas masaya kasi alam ko po sa sarili ko na mas kabisado ko po ‘yong galaw sa middle kaysa open kaya siguro naging mas maginhawa,” she told TomasinoWeb.
“Kapag sa training, lahat po ng drills sumasama ako para hindi na po ako magulat and prepared po ako sa kahit anong ibibigay po sa akin,” Altea said.
Head coach Kung Fu Reyes commended Altea's versatility she delivered on the floor adjusting to every position she was tasked on.
“Left or right, outside or opposite nilalaro naman in Marga. Basta meron siyang touch sa middle kasi puro situational na 'yong mga nangyayari sa adjustments,” he said.
“So ayon, hindi naman ito bago doon sa pagiging middle and mas madali na 'yong pure adjustment para sa kanya [Altea]," he said.
As eliminations near, Altea is hopeful to keep her spot at the center of the defense.
“Sana nga ako pa rin [middle blocker next game] and pagtratrabahuhan ko din po,” she added. -With reports from Dylan Kievan Lameseria
