Pasok na sa Semi-Finals ang koponan ng UST matapos ang panalong ito.

Nanguna sina Milena Alessandrini at Jamie Jimenez na parehong nagtala ng 13 puntos kung saan 12 puntos doon ay mula sa kanilang attacks.

“Para kami yung panahon ngayon. Gloomy, umuulan, kaya pinipilit naming binubuhay. Sabi ko nga, ang laki ng lamang natin, bakit parang tayo yung naghahabol? At least na overcome namin yung first two sets. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, mag enjoy sila, i- celebrate nila bawat puntos nila, yung mga kasama nila, i- cheer nila. Nagising naman kahit papano nung third set,” saad ng kanilang assistant coach na si Ian Fernandez.

Si Ejiya Laure naman ay nagtala ng 11 puntos kung saan ang dalawa doon ay galing sa kanyang service aces.

Sa kuponan naman ng Benilde, nanguna si Marites Pablo na nagtala ng 14 puntos mula sa kanyang 12 attacks.

Muling susubukan ng UST maipanalo ang kanilang susunod na laro sa ika-15 ng Agosto, ika-apat ng hapon sa parehong lugar.

Tigers extend win streak to three

The UST Growling Tigers escaped the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 78-70, to stretch their win streak to three in the UAAP Season 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday.

Zachary Huang led UST with 20 points and six rebounds, while Marvin Lee and Renzo Subido contributed 17 and 14 markers, respectively.

Lee sank back-to-back treys following an LJ Gonzales layup to take the lead in the final quarter, 55-51, after ending the prior frame tied with FEU at 49.

“We executed our game plan. Lumabas yung laro ng mga bata. Pinaghandaan naman namin ‘to… pero long way to go. We are not going to be contented by these wins,” said UST head coach Aldin Ayo.

Huang’s jump shot sparked a 12-2 run to stretch their lead to ten, 67-57, before Arvin Tolentino drained a three to cut UST’s rally.

“We are going to continue working hard, and we are going to compete,” Ayo continued.

Richard Escoto and Arvin Tolentino were the only players who scored in double digits for FEU with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

After overpowering the University of the East Red Warriors in their last game, the UST Growling Tigers upset the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 86-72, in the UAAP Season 81 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.

This is their third win that ties them with UP at fifth place with a 3-4 card to end the first round match-up.

Cj Cansino led UST with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, while Renzo Subido and John Kenneth Zamora added 13 and 12 markers apiece.

Bright Akhueti had 18 points and 11 rebounds, a double-double performance that fell short from sealing the victory for UP.

UST will try to keep their winning momentum as they face the Far Eastern University for the second round of eliminations on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the same venue.

Missing their import Steve Akomo for the second straight game, the UST Growling Tigers notched their second win of the season as they beat the UE Red Warriors, 80-66, in their first round match in the UAAP Basketball Men’s Division, Saturday afternoon at the MOA Arena.

UST’s 47.06% on 16-on-34 shooting beyond the arc sparked their lead to blow to as much as 21 points.

CJ Cansino’s double-double effort with 17 points and 17 rebounds lead the way for the Tigers, while Renzo Subido also contributed 22 markers.

When asked what his thoughts are about their win, Cansino said,” masaya siyempre kasi pinaghandaan talaga namin ‘to, sobrang down kami these past two games. I’m very happy na bumalik na kami.”

The Tigers were able to limit the Red Warriors to only a 23-point first-half production.

With 32 big points, Alvin Pasaol lead all UE scorers in a losing effort.

The Tigers improved to 2-4.

UST’s next game will be on Wednesday, Oct. 10, against the UP Fighting Maroons at the same venue.
