The UST Male Tennisters defended their men's lawn tennis title against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 3-1, to conclude their UAAP Season 86 campaign on Sunday, April 7, at the Rizal Memorial Complex.

Ateneo's Noy Seno gave the squad from Katipunan an early lead after completing a 1-6, 0-6 thrashing over UST's Christopher Sonsona.

Season MVP Nilo Ledama made his doubles debut partnered with eventual finals MVP Steven Sonsona to get one back for UST at the expense of Nio Tria and Axl Gonzales, who were outgunned 6-2, 6-1.

Ericjay Tangub put the Male Tennisters a step closer towards clinching back-to-back titles after cruising past Austin de los Santos, 6-1, 6-4.

It was UST's duo of Richard Bautista and Nash Agustines that secured the Male Tennisters' championship, outclassing Ateneo's Jj Llavore and Stef Gurria 6-4, 6-2.

UST assistant coach Johnny Arcilla lauded the team’s finals-worthy performance.

"Pressured din kami kasi syempre ine-expect ng mga tao na ma-defend namin 'yung title. Pero maganda 'yung preparation namin, mahaba 'yung preparation namin. Itong last na 'to ang ganda ng nilaro ng mga bata. Ito na talaga 'yung pang-finals," Arcilla said.

This season's championship also saw the Male Tennisters become the winningest team in UAAP tennis history with 16 titles.

On the other hand, the Female Tennisters settled for silver after bowing out to the NU Lady Bulldogs, 2-3, in yet another tight-knit title decider in the same venue.

Rookie of the year Kaye Emana got the Female Tennisters off to a rousing start following a 6-4, 6-2 beating of NU’s Angela Cabaral.

UST doubled down their lead after Alex Santos thwarted JM Carcueva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

NU got a match back, with Alyssa Bornia and Alliah Ragunto overpowering UST’s tandem of Miles Vitaliano and Debbie Gom-os 4-6, 2-6.

The Lady Bulldogs drew level, with Danna Abad and Rovie Baulete taking down UST's Minette Bentillo and Nicole de la Rita, 0-6, 4-6 to force the decider.

NU's ace Elsie Abarques sealed the Lady Bulldogs' third-straight title after outdueling Female Tennister Justine Maneja 3-6, 0-6.

The win saw NU equalize the UST Lady Tennisters’ seven championship titles.
