Tiger Cubs secure Final Four slot in win vs Ateneo

The UST Tiger Cubs booked a ticket to the Final Four after dispatching the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 80-68, in the UAAP Season 86 Boys' Basketball on Jan. 24, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

The win put the Tiger Cubs on a 8-5 slate, assuring a spot in the playoffs.

Koji Buenaflor lifted UST with 21 points and seven rebounds while Lanze Ronqiillo added 14 points.

The Tiger Cubs were on cruise control after halftime, zooming to a 26-7 run to lead by as big as 23 points in the third quarter.

Ateneo then countered with a 13-2 blitz in the fourth quarter only for the Tiger Cubs to deny their stand.

UST dominated the assist department with 26 in the game, doubling Ateneo's tally of 13.

Charles Bucsit and JB Lim rounded up the double-digit scorers for UST with 13 and 10, respectively.

Troy De Guzman led Ateneo with 10 points as the Tiger Cubs held Blue Eagles' star bigman Kris Porter to just seven markers.

Ateneo is now 4-9 in the standings.

The Tiger Cubs will face the fourth seed FEU-D Baby Tamaraws on Jan. 28, at the same venue.
