Tigresses’ bench stars in 23 point blowout against Ateneo

The UST Growling Tigresses blew past the Ateneo Lady Eagles breaking their two-game losing skid, 90-67 in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Basketball tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Adamson Gym.

Kent Pastrana carried the cudgels with 17 points while Agatha Bron chipped in 15 as both players came off the bench to lead the 64 bench points of the Tigresses.

Tacky Tacatac also provided an offensive lift for UST, scoring eight of her 15 points in the fourth quarter.

UST had a lowly start with Ateneo scoring 9-2 to start the game but the Tigresses answered with a 19-5 run, ending the quarter with a six-point cushion, 24-18.

The second quarter was no different with UST maintaining a five point lead aided by a 6-0 run by the Tigresses to end the first half, 38-33.

Ateneo executed a 6-0 start to the second half but was spoiled by the Tigresses as they answered with a 23-3 run with Agatha Bron draining three field goals from beyond the arc which created a 13-point lead coming into the final salvo, 61-48.

The Growling Tigresses broke the game away with a 20-point lead as they executed a 14-2 run in the final period, 82-62.

Ateneo’s Kaycey Dela Rosa scored a game-high 24 points and finished with 13 boards while Sarah Makanjuola posted 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The UST Growling Tigresses will look to bring their momentum on Saturday, Oct. 21 as they face the Far Eastern University at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.
