UST Tracksters dominate in UAAP
“We started strong and we finished strong [...]," Trackster head coach Emmanuel Calipes expressed.
After five thrilling days of competition at the PhilSports Track and Field Oval in Pasig, the UST Tracksters proved their dominance in the UAAP Season 79 track and field tournament Sunday.
The defending champions, Female Tracksters, grabbed their third-straight championship with 490 points while the Male Tracksters settled for back-to-back bridesmaid finish with 244 points.
The Espana-based tracksters were 89 points ahead of the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws who notched silver with 401 points while University of the Philippines Lady Maroons placed third with 165 points.
In men’s play, the undermanned Male Tracksters surrendered to the powerhouse FEU who tallied 404 points while De La Salle University Green Archers capped the podium with 243 points of their own.
“We started strong we finished strong. Sa women’s nakuha natin ang gold and at least last year we’ve set five records ngayon naman tatlo,” UST head coach Emmanuel Calipes said.
Luz Delfin, Sarah Dequinan and Ernest John Obiena reaped new UAAP records in the hammer throw, 800m heptathlon and 110m hurdles, respectively.
Louielyn Pamatian was awarded the Most Valuable Player in the women’s division after ruling the 800m and 1500m run with gold and a silver in the 400m sprint.
“Nagulat nga po ako na ako ‘yung tinawag na MVP kasi hindi ko po talaga ineexpect. Pero inisip ko na lang po ‘yung family ko para po ito sa kanila,” Pamatian expressed.
UST now has a total of seven championships in the women’s division and eight the men’s division in the UAAP track and field history.
