UST Tennisters dismantle NU, DLSU

The University of Santo Tomas Tennisters bested their respective opponents in the UAAP Season 79 lawn tennis tournament, Sunday, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Courts.
Despite the absence of head coach Alexander Diego, the Tiger Tennisters defeated the defending champions National University Bulldogs, 3-2.
Nico Lanzado secured the game for UST, beating John Jeric Accion in the last match, 6-3, 6-0.
In the singles division, Dave Mosqueda defeated Jeremiah Latorre, 6-4, 6-4, and Clarence Cabahug dominated Chris Justine Prulla, 6-3, 6-3.
UST’s duo JC Cabusas and Leroy Bering bowed down against Allen Manlangit and Kiko Alcantara, 2-6, 4-6. En-En Lopez and Jose Suazo ran out of gas against Jigo Pena and AJ Alejandre, 7-6, 1-6, 4-6.
“Talagang ginawa po naming lahat kanina upang manalo, every point talagang pinaghirapan namin,” Lanzado said in an online interview.
Meanwhile, the Lady Tennisters escaped the De La Salle University Lady Archers, 3-2.
Erika Manduriao brought home the lone victory in the singles category, 6-4, 6-0. April Santos and Ingrid Gonzales overwhelmed DLSU with a grueling, 6-0, 6-0 while the Shy Gitalan-Lenelyn Milo tandem pulled off a 6-4, 2-6, and 6-3 win.
Precian Rivera and Kendies Malinis bowed down to their respective opponents, 2-6, 2-6, and 0-6, 7-5, 1-6, respectively.
“Nalaman namin na ang La Salle ay di rin madaling kalaban. Magandang game yung ngayon para sa preparation namin sa NU,” Lady Tennisters head coach Dennis Sta. Cruz said.
The Tiger Tennisters will next match the University of the East Red Warriors while the Lady Tennisters will battle the defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday, February 22, at the same venue.
