UST Lady Booters clinch silver in UAAP Football
The University of Santo Tomas Lady Booters almost completed a Cinderella run in the UAAP Season 79 women’s football tournament but they fell to the De La Salle University’s prowess, 1-3, Sunday, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
The Espana-based squad shrugged off their forgettable performance in the past two seasons to enter into the finals anew.
Down 0-1, UST’s Hazel Lustan was the lone bright spot as she tied the match in 73rd minute.
DLSU’s Sara Castaneda would then unleashed a cold-blooded goal in the 89th minute while Nicole Reyes provided the finishing touches to mark their championship in the 94th minute, 3-1.
Lady Booters Charisa Lemoran, graduating Aira Ilan, and Lustan were named in the mythical team while Mary Joy Indac bagged home the Rookie of the Year.
Neri Cuaresma – on her second year in UAAP – is still unsure whether to take a master’s degree to continue her playing years.
The Lady Booters plan to take a month of rest before going back to training, since they need to prepare for pre-season tournaments. Coming ahead is the Women’s Football League organized by the Philippine Football Federation.
Rubio promised to focus and improve on the team’s killer instinct and confidence as she already believes that the players have the skills and agility.
But of course, we will work hard. Harder, this time,” said Rubio ended.
