Tiger Softbelles fall to NU
With the loss, UST now drops to 3-2 win-loss slate.
The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Softbelles absorbed their second straight loss against the National University Lady Bulldogs, 0-1, Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
NU had a chance to close the game in the seventh inning with all bases loaded and with two outs. The Tiger Softbelles braced the tough inning as with their defense catching Lady Bulldog’s Aimee Watson in second base to force an extra inning.
The Espana-based batters fell short to capitalized in the top half of the second inning, as with all batter hits failing to lead second base runner Lyra Gustilo home.
A catching error in the early part of bottom half of the extra inning saw NU’s second base runner Watson to steal third base with ease. Mia Macapagal RBI would end the match as Watson gets home after UST catcher Palma failed to tag her at home base.
UST head coach Sandy Barredo refused to comment on the lost.
The Softbelles will try to end the first round on a high note when they face the University of the East Lady Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 19, at the same venue.
