Golden Tigresses bounce back against winless Adamson
The Golden Tigresses are now 6-4, with a solo grip for third seed
The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses regained their winning momentum at the expense of the cellar dweller Adamson University Lady Falcons 25-12, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, Saturday, in the UAAP 79 women’s volleyball tournament, at the Fil Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Cherry Rondina once again led the Tigresses with 18 points, EJ Laure added another 14, and Pam Lastimosa and Ria Meneses chipped in 11 points apiece.
The Tigresses cruised past the Lady Falcons in the first two sets 25-12, and 25-18.
The Lady Falcons, however, proved no pushovers as they shocked the Tigresses with a 6-2 rally late in the third, 19-15. UST tried a comeback in the set with a 4-0 run of their own, to tie things up at 20-all.
A back to back service aces by Zonxi Dahab saw Adamson back up four in the third set, 24-20, before taking the set 25-22.
The Espana-based spikers would bounced back in the fourth set as they pummeled Adamson with a 12-point lead, 20-8. The Lady Falcons never surrendered in the dying moments, denying the Tigresses match point four times 24-19. Rondina provided the finishing touch for her squad via cross court kill.
“Kailangan pa namin trabahuin pa, para at least ma-over achieve namin yung gusto pa naming marating,” UST head coach Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes said.
“Hopefully wake up call ito sa amin, especially sa third set kung tratrabahuin ng kalaban at i-easy easy lang kami, o kakalahi lang, kalahi lang makukuha namin, kaya kailangan all out na sila lagi,” Reyes added.
The Golden Tigresses are now 6-4, with a solo grip for third seed and will next face FEU Lady Tamaraws on Saturday, Mar. 25, at the same venue.
