Golden Booters escape NU, reclaim fourth spot
"This game is very important for UST, now we're back to number four."
A late goal by AJ Pasion lifted the University of Santo Tomas Golden Booters against the National University Bulldogs, 2-1, in the UAAP season 79 men’s football tournament,Sunday, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
With just four minutes remaining in the game with the score tied at one-all, Pasion rushed through NU defenders to score a goal and the eventual win, 2-1.
“‘Yung game namin against NU is just like a championship [game] eh. Very exciting,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said.
Golden Booters started out strong in the first half after Darwin Busmion slipped a kick that gave them a 1-0 advantage in the 17th minute.
In the second half, NU’s Mike Arbela was able to equalize with a goal in the 75th minute mark, 1-1.
With the win, UST now holds a slim one point lead against NU in the playoff run with a win-draw-loss record of 5-2-5.
“This game is very important for UST, now we’re back to number four.” Allado added.
The Espana-based squad will next face the De La Salle University on Thursday, Apr. 6, at the Moro Lorenzo Field in Quezon City.
