Former AB dean to represent Catholic teachers’ union in UN
Former Artlets Dean Belen Tangco was designated by WUCT to represent the union before the UN.
A former dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets) will be representing the World Union of Catholic Teachers (WUCT) in the United Nations and in other world organizations until 2018.
Former Artlets Dean Belen Tangco was designated by WUCT to represent the union before the UN, with concurrence from the Congregation of Catholic Education, the Council of Laymen, and the Episcopal Conference of Bishops.
Tangco has been a member of WUCT since 1995. She organized the International Congress for Catholic Educators in 2002 held at Bangkok, Thailand.
In 2013, she served as the international coordinator of the International Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities.
Tangco served as the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters from 2003 to 2006. She is currently a faculty member of the University’s Political Science Department and Graduate School.
The WUCT or the Union Mondiale Des Enseignants Catholiques was established in 1951 as a coordinating body of national Catholic teachers’ associations. It operates in 28 countries in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America and has 26 member-associations.
