Tigersharks medal-less in Day 3
The Tigersharks were quite dry today.
The University of Santo Tomas Tigersharks failed to get a medal in the third day of the UAAP Season 79 swimming competition, Sunday, at Rizal Memorial Swimming Stadium in Manila.
UST’s main gunner Jux Keaton Solita settled for fifth place in the 200-meter freestyle and 400-meter individual medley while Julianne Khryztelle Torres suited for another fifth place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Following a one silver output in the second day for the women’s team, the Espana-based swimmers currently stand at fourth place, behind Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines.
“Men’s team still in fourth, women’s team, na-taken over na tayo ng La Salle for third,” UST head coach Cyrus Alcantara said.
Meanwhile, the Junior Tiger Sharks are still in the loop for double championship contention; the boys bagged one gold medal, three silvers and two bronze while the girls took home a gold, two silvers and a bronze medal.
Reynard Gomez, Brayan Camacho, James Ellsworth and James Guererro placed first and broke the record in the boy’s 4×50-meter freestyle relay in 1:43.73, three seconds faster.
Sean Terence Zamora and Christian Sy bagged the silver in the 400-meter individual medley and 100-meter backstroke, respectively.
Guererro and Matthew Terrence Buico sealed the second and third place in the 50-meter butterfly. Lyndon Herrera sneaked into the podium in the 200-meter freestyle.
Camille Buico broke her own record to top in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 29.40 seconds while Junior Tigershark Ronalyn Joyce Lalimo took home the bronze in the same event.
Justine Abastillas settled for silver in the 200-meter freestyle, while UST finished second in the 4×50-meter freestyle relay.
The Juniors team will try to end their campaign on a high note in the last day tomorrow, Oct. 24, at the same venue.
