COMELEC holds inter-party talks in PolPar Expo wrap-up
UNIVERSITY-WIDE political parties exchanged views and opinions during the last leg of the Political Party Expo spearheaded by the University of Santo Tomas Central Commission on Elections (UST-COMELEC) held last October 10 at the UST Plaza Mayor.
“We are working very hard to ensure the maintenance of peace and harmony between the three political parties, as well as to ensure fair voting without any anomalies in the next Central Student Council Elections,” said UST Central COMELEC head Julia Unarce.
Three main political parties Lakas Tomasino Coalition (LTC), Alyansa ng Kristiyanong Lakas (AKLAS) and Lakas ng Diwang Tomasino (LAKASDIWA) engaged in a panel discussion with local COMELEC units, Students Organization Coordinating Council (SOCC), Thomasian Debaters Council (TDB) and the audience asking questions on current concerns of each party.
Nathaniel de Leon of AKLAS simply reiterated good governance, sustainable development, social justice and student empowerment, underscoring transparency as one of their principles.
“We give power to choose and a chance to make a change,” said Elmo Nicolas of LTC when asked on how they would utilize their party’s ideals during the campaign and the elections.
Eula Andrea San Juan on the other hand highlighted LAKASDIWA’s social democracy as the party’s stand, recapping their ideals of being the voice of students and the promotion of unending service and true Thomasian spirit.
The PolPar Expo also served as a recruitment fair for Thomasians who are interested to be part of the political student body. -With reports by Ivan Vecina and John Paul Domingo
