Tigresses stun Lady Knights
THE University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses showed relentless offense to pulverize the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in straight sets, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20, and captured their third consecutive win in the Shakey’s V-League season 10 at the San Juan Arena earlier.
Tigress veterans Aiza Maizo and Maika Ortiz paced the team as they dished out 16 and 14 points respectively while Rhea Dimaculangan registered 24 excellent sets to end their elimination round in a winning note.
The Espana-based squad got their rhythm early in the first frame establishing an eight-point lead, 18-10, courtesy of Maizo’s fiery spikes together with Ortiz and Jessey de Leon fortifying the net defense of the Tigresses.
The Lady Knights tightened up the ball game in the second set which forced the Tigresses with back to back errors that gave Patcharee Sangmuang to score a couple of hits to grab the upper seat, 22-18, but the six-time V-League champion was able to turn the tables as De Leon fired quick attacks including the set-winning hit, 25-23.
Sangmuang spearheaded the Intramuros-based squad as she tallied for 13 markers but failed to gain support from Melissa Ogana and Mellisa Cu who conspired for only 12 points.
The Tigresses stayed at second spot in Group A with a 3-1 win-loss record while Letran registered its fourth loss in the league and ended their campaign without a victory.
